However this all changed when I was invited to go on what I thought to be one of those waste of time active holidays however when I received the invite I had a bit of holiday left over and thought screw it I will just go. After booking it I was then told the news that it wasn’t just an active holiday but one of those walking holidays.

Walking for a week was not something I was over the moon about but still I got on with it and gave it a go. From the first day my opinion on these holidays changed for the better. It was very nice to get away from the city and see the lovely wilderness. It was so good to just sit back and watch the wildlife as it carries on.

Another good thing is that we didnt have to carry our main cases around with us at all because they were all being taken to the next inn for us which was very nice. All we had to take is a day backpack with the essential foods and medical stuff if needed. So for example a good warm jacket, I took a couple of my ski jackets which I picked up on a ski holiday last year, also my warm ski gloves and ski pants were really useful.  It was also quite easy to sort about my Diabetic items when I was away on this holiday which is hard as the insulin needs to keep cool.

We actually went on a New Zealand Holiday but there are so many other active and walking holidays out there to choose from, it changed the way I thought about the world and it may be worth going on one yourself. It was a little cold the time of year we went but the sceneery was unbeatable!

He now lists the names of all the individuals to whom he wants to give tips on “branches” attached to the central image. Having a set amount of money he wants to give out, he now decides he will divide the sum according to the amount of service each individual provided. Thus, on “child branches”, the gentleman lists what service each individual provided and how often they provided it. He then approximates the number of hours each person’s service amounted to, and lists the number on “branches”. Lastly, the man determines the percentage of the total hours of service he received from each person, listing this percentage on more “twigs”. When he has finished his tipping diagram, it looks similar to the attached Mind Map.

Now that the man has organized the services each individual he will tip has provided, he can easily determine the tip amount for each person. He simply gives each person a percentage of the total amount he intends to tip corresponding to the percentage of total service the individual provided. While the man could have figured out tip amounts using a standard linear list, the Mind Map made the process more conceptual and efficient. It was much easier for the man to follow his thinking regarding each person’s hours of service and tip amount using the colorful and spatial map diagram. In addition, the Mind Map format allowed him to organize the information in one document, rather than on several pages, as a list would have. The man, therefore, finds that he is able to think through and decide, rather effortlessly, the holiday tip amounts for everyone on his list. He can now cross the task of monetarily showing appreciation to those whose help he received off his holiday list.
