When you drive through the southern regions of Bavaria in December, you are bound in to see long lines of vehicles traveling to the various ski resorts in Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Austria. The majority of them will proudly display skiing equipment attached to the roof racks of their cars. These guys are fortunate enough to be going on an Alpine skiing holiday.

The excitement of skiing doesn’t only lie in the physical act of speeding down a mountain slope - that is of course a pure adrenalin rush - it’s also about being in the great outdoors. About the feeling of being part of these majestic mountains surrounding you. About knowing that for these precious moments there will be no urgent phone calls to answer or emails to attend to.

Buying good alpine skiing equipment is a must for any skier who want to be professional and safe. Inferior equipment could well spoil the whole experience for you. If you don’t ski every year, you should be able to hire these equipment at most ski resorts.

But a ski holiday is about more than skiing. It’s also about socializing. If you go to a ski resort like Zermatt, St Moritz or Garmisch-Partenkirchen you would no doubt want to spend many an evening discussing the adventures of the day with your fellow skiers in one of the cosy little pubs or restaurants that you inevitably find in these resorts.

There will inevitably be days when you can’s ski because of bad weather. For those days, bring along something to help you pass the time. Board games, ebook readers and musical instruments are all good options. You can nowadays download enough books on the average ebook reader to last you for years - no matter how avid a reader you may be.

If you are an amateur musician and you stay in one of those lovely little log cabins that you get in many of these Alpine resorts, you could spend many evenings playing your favorite instrument. For some reason guitar music goes very well with the whole Alpine environment, so why not bring your epiphone electric guitar and turn a quiet, rainy day into one that’s filled with music?

Whatever you do during your skiing holiday, make sure to treasure every moment. There might never come a time again exactly like this, with the same friends, the same beautiful weather, the same snowy mountains in the background.

To be honest I have never been a major fan of doing anything involving much activity at all. The thing is I thought that a lot of work is done in my job, why should I do it when I am away taking vacation.

However this all changed when I was invited to go on what I thought to be one of those waste of time active holidays however when I received the invite I had a bit of holiday left over and thought screw it I will just go. After booking it I was then told the news that it wasn’t just an active holiday but one of those walking holidays.

Walking for a week was not something I was over the moon about but still I got on with it and gave it a go. From the first day my opinion on these holidays changed for the better. It was very nice to get away from the city and see the lovely wilderness. It was so good to just sit back and watch the wildlife as it carries on.

Another good thing is that we didnt have to carry our main cases around with us at all because they were all being taken to the next inn for us which was very nice. All we had to take is a day backpack with the essential foods and medical stuff if needed. So for example a good warm jacket, I took a couple of my ski jackets which I picked up on a ski holiday last year, also my warm ski gloves and ski pants were really useful. It was also quite easy to sort about my Diabetic items when I was away on this holiday which is hard as the insulin needs to keep cool.

We actually went on a New Zealand Holiday but there are so many other active and walking holidays out there to choose from, it changed the way I thought about the world and it may be worth going on one yourself. It was a little cold the time of year we went but the sceneery was unbeatable!

The holiday season is the time of year when most people begin thinking about giving thanks to those who have helped them throughout the year. Whether it is a favorite deliveryman who always delivers packages early, or a manicurist who helps achieve the perfectly groomed hand, there are those whose services should be appreciated. However, the question often arises of how to manage and determine the appropriate monetary gift for each person whose assistance one has benefited from. A Mind Mapping software tool is a simple and effective answer to this question, because it allows users to “map out” a variety of information in an intuitive manner. With Mind Maps, tippers can organize everything from whom to tip, to how much, in one, neat, spatially formatted diagram. The Mind Map’s use of images and colors further allows the user to do so in a highly conceptual way, ensuring that no one is left off the holiday tipping list. Mind Mapping is therefore, an easy and creative solution to managing holiday tips for those to whom one wants to show gratitude.

What is Mind Mapping Software?

Mind Mapping software is any software that is used to create diagrams, pictures, and other graphic visuals in order to show the relationship between ideas or other types of information. With Mind Maps, the key concept or main idea of the information being presented is represented by a central image, located in the center of the map. Any themes surrounding the main idea are shown on “branches” that are attached to the central image, with subsequent themes of less importance attached by “child branches” or “twigs”. The resulting diagram is a “map” of the ideas and information shown in a spatial, rather than linear, format. Moreover, along with the ideas shown on the map are images, visual graphics, and colors that the constructor of the “map” associates with each of the themes and ideas. Mapping out information in this manner is widely believed to allow the brain to process the information in way that is more consistent with its natural functioning.

Organizing Holiday Tips Using a Mind Map

A busy individual, with Christmas rapidly approaching, finds that he still needs to give out holiday tips to those whose service he has benefited from this year. Not sure where he should start, he decides to get himself organized using a Mind Map. The man begins his Mind Map by, first, placing an image representing his holiday tipping in the map’s center. He now lists the names of all the individuals to whom he wants to give tips on “branches” attached to the central image. Having a set amount of money he wants to give out, he now decides he will divide the sum according to the amount of service each individual provided. Thus, on “child branches”, the gentleman lists what service each individual provided and how often they provided it. He then approximates the number of hours each person’s service amounted to, and lists the number on “branches”. Lastly, the man determines the percentage of the total hours of service he received from each person, listing this percentage on more “twigs”. When he has finished his tipping diagram, it looks similar to the attached Mind Map.

Determining the Amount to Tip Each Individual

Now that the man has organized the services each individual he will tip has provided, he can easily determine the tip amount for each person. He simply gives each person a percentage of the total amount he intends to tip corresponding to the percentage of total service the individual provided. While the man could have figured out tip amounts using a standard linear list, the Mind Map made the process more conceptual and efficient. It was much easier for the man to follow his thinking regarding each person’s hours of service and tip amount using the colorful and spatial map diagram. In addition, the Mind Map format allowed him to organize the information in one document, rather than on several pages, as a list would have. The man, therefore, finds that he is able to think through and decide, rather effortlessly, the holiday tip amounts for everyone on his list. He can now cross the task of monetarily showing appreciation to those whose help he received off his holiday list.

Is there something all that great about Sharm El Sheikh? Sharm El Shiekh has been a massive contender for the number 1 holiday spot, especially for luxury holidays, but why is it doing so well?

There are two very important factors that make Sharm El Sheikh the tourist location that it is today. The main and biggest reason is the diving capabilities. Many people regard Sharm as one of the best diving locations in the world, and this is for several reasons. One massive factor is simply the amount of biological diversity in the Red Sea, the corals in this ocean are very easy to find as there are so many, there are around 250 in this area alone! These coral reefs are some of the easiest for divers to access in the world. The fact that there are so many different fish here, means that people can see something new every time they visit, there are actually about 1000 species here. This means that experienced divers can analyse a different group of fish each time they come here.

When divers head out to look for certain things and species in the ocean, this forms a new type of tourism named “Scientific tourism”. If you have a deep passion for something like this then this location is great for those that enjoy a “Science holiday”. These holidays are very popular with travel agents, mainly because the length of someones stay greatly increases.

The next big reason for Sharm becoming such a big tourist attraction is none other than the weather itself. Egypt is very warm and dry, making it a great place for sunning. This is one of the places in the world just like the rest of Africa, that receives very little water all year round. This destination can get very hot as well, perfect for those that love hot and sweaty weather.

Sharm El Sheikh holidays are fantastic, they are even more popular than Caribbean holidays and Maldives holidays combined! St Lucia holidays and Barbados holidays will have to step up their game!

So you’ve taken the plunge and booked a family ‘get away from it all’ Christmas break… but now is dawning on you exactly what you will be ‘away from’ and are wondering how you’ll transport the ‘family Christmas at home’ experience to another country!?

Here are our top 10 tips for family friendly holidays at Christmas, to make sure you all have a wonderfully relaxing trip…

1. Involve your kids in the travel experience. Get out a map and point out where the family will be staying. Talk about how far you are travelling - just like Santa himself! Let your children help pack their suit cases and even choose Christmas gifts for members of the family with whom you’ll be holidaying.

2. Make sure they leave a letter behind letting Santa know of their temporary home so he can be sure to find them on Christmas Eve. If Santa will be unable to hop down a chimney, let the kids leave suggestions as to an alternative method for their delivery. And of course, remember to leave out a little tipple and a mince pie (or maybe a local equivalent!) at your journey’s end. He’s sure to be hungry after the extra trip from your home!

3. Find out if the larger online retailers deliver to your destination. You can even get deliveries gift wrapped. Just remember to plan for how you’ll get them home! Perhaps try to keep a suitcase or fold away bag in reserve and keep everyone’s bags to a minimum (at least you won’t usually need swimsuits at this time of year!) Try to plan gifts that are lightweight and small to pack.

4. If you can’t transport all the gifts, discuss how children in Europe are given theirs on Epiphany instead. Maybe Santa will build in your vacations and leave smaller than normal gifts, or maybe leave some but with a note that there are still some more surprises at home under the tree.

5. Make much of creating the same ‘Christmassy’ atmosphere they’ve left behind when you arrive - most properties will provide decorations, a tree etc for Christmas guests.

6. Take some Christmas songs Cds and stories for travelling to keep the festive spirit alive throughout your journey.

7. Check out the local Christmas markets or plan to visit a theme park that opens during the holiday season. Train rides, tours of lights and visits to see Santa are some of the things you can expect to find no matter where you go on baby friendly holidays at Christmas.

8. Pack a small bag of supplies so your tots can make decorations for your holiday home. Or pop to the local supermarket on arrival to stock up on the makings of some batches of Christmas biscuits or mince pies (though you may need to pack a jar of mincemeat from home!)

9. Before you leave, read about how kids celebrate Christmas in other countries. You can perhaps introduce some new traditions during your child friendly holidays, to take home with you for future Christmases.

10. Enjoy the relaxation - no racing around visiting friends and family, no shopping, no ‘let’s use the time off to decorate the spare room’ - just relax and enjoy time as a family!

Your house is usually the house that most people visit during the holidays, so you’ll want to teach your children all you can about Thanksgiving so that they can learn about more great reasons to celebrate the day. Here are some of the best ways to teach your children and family about Thanksgiving, as well as some crafts and activities that everyone will enjoy.

One of the things you’ll want to stress to your children is that this holiday is mainly about being grateful. While this is a time that you get together with friends and family to eat great food, this time of year was traditionally used to give thanks for the harvest. Make sure that your children know that things like food and clothing should not be taken for granted, and that taking time to say thank you to those that are responsible for their well-being is a practice they should carry into adulthood.

Another great way to teach your loved ones about Thanksgiving is to take them to a homeless shelter or soup kitchen so that they can directly help those that are less fortunate. It is very comforting to spend this time of year in a safe, warm home with people that you love, and your children need to see that everyone does not have this luxury. Most homeless shelters will allow you to volunteer your time for an hour or two before or after you have your meal at home, and making this a family tradition could help to bring you and your loved ones closer.

You can also teach your family about different cultures and ethnicities when you are sharing information about Thanksgiving. It is believed that the Spaniards were the first to celebrate the holiday in North America, as a way to celebrate their arrival to the New World. Food and festivities were definitely a part of this celebration, so you may want to try a few traditional Spanish dishes for your meal to expose your children and family to new fare. You can also do a little research to find out how different people celebrate this time of year, so you can create crafts and food that will make the lessons a little more real.

If you want to learn more about Thanksgiving for yourself, you can visit your local library for books, videos, and DVDs that will teach you the historical significance of this holiday. You can also find historical accounts and informational books on sites like www.amazon.com or www.bn.com. There are also a number of children’s books on these sites that you can use to tell your little one more about Thanksgiving.

Kids love to help us parents get ready for the holidays. Here are five easy craft projects to help your home look more festive than ever.

Some of these craft projects are best enjoyed together. Others will keep your kids happy and occupied as you do your own holiday preparations.

1. Make a turkey (or other centerpiece) from natural items.
This craft is fun for everyone, and very eco-friendly. Take your kids on a nature walk or a simple walk through the local grocery store. Pick items for different parts of the turkey. Pine cones and leaves can form the body and feathers of the turkey, for example. Or, if you are in the supermarket, choose different sized gourds and corn leaves. Glue the pieces together using craft glue or use some toothpicks, depending on the age of your children.

2. Beaded bracelets
Beaded bracelets can be used for a wide variety of different holidays. This project is also very adaptable to any age group. Preschoolers can use pipe cleaners and pony beads to create easy bracelets. Older children can string pony beads on plastic lace. Pre-teens can use a needle, thread and seed beads. Pick colors related to the holiday that you are preparing for. For example, gold, red and brown can create festive Thanksgiving bracelets. Red, green, silver and gold are perfect for Christmas and blue and silver will be great for Hanukkah.

3. Gingerbread houses
This yearly treat is fun for everyone. There are gingerbread house kits available that have everything you need for a simple house, or you can create your own. Using graham crackers, cream cheese frosting or white icing, gum drops, licorice and other pieces of candy you can create your own designs. Be creative with your items and you’ll have totally unique gingerbread houses.

4. Gift tags
These craft projects are practical and fun, too. There are so many different ways you can create gift tags that you can make some with whatever you have on hand. Use cardboard, tag board or decorative paper and cut out squares, circles, ovals and unique shapes. Your children can use stamps to create the designs on the tags using appropriate holiday colors and designs. They can also use markers to draw their own designs. Use sequins, glitter, bits of ribbon and stickers, too. Older kids can put “to” and “from” information on the back of the tags.

5. Felt projects
A few sheets of felt, some scissors and some glue are all you need to create a great variety of holiday crafts year round. White felt circles, a top hat and some beads are all you need for some felt snowmen. Green felt tree shapes, yellow stars and beads make an easy craft. Yellow felt stars can be jazzed up with some gold glitter. This craft is only limited by your imagination and your children’s skill level.

These craft projects are easily adaptable to any age level and will make the holidays even more fun for everyone.

New Year’s Eve parties used to be celebrated at the homes of family and friends. However, since massive-scale parties are broadcast on television for all to see, there is a longing in many Americans to hit the streets and live large for the night. Whether you plan on bundling up in Times Square or wearing that slinky dress to a Miami gala event, there are many options for the New Year’s Eve party hunter.

Each year, people look for a new kind of experience that fosters an environment of “letting loose” and “going wild,” yet also one that is comfortable. Here are some of the best New Year’s parties around the world.

Why not spend this New Years Eve in France? In Paris, you can see cabaret shows at Pigalle Place, take a Seine River dinner cruise, drink champagne at the Champs-Elysees and watch fireworks explode over the Eiffel Tower. If clubbing is one of your New Year traditions, then you may want to check out the Nouveau Casino, The Wagg, Le Troisieme Lieu, the REX Club and Divan du Monde. It might be best to work with a travel agent well in advance to book your France New Year’s Eve experience.

Pasadena, California has been home to some of the nation’s most treasured New Year’s Eve parties and New Year’s Day festivities for more than a century. The 121st Tournament of Roses parade will take place on January 1, 2010 at 8 am, featuring towering floats designed from roses, high-stepping horses, ballroom dancers, pyrotechnic displays and marching bands. Following the parade, the 91st Rose Bowl football game will take place featuring the top two college teams in the country. The history of the Rose Bowl began as the “Tournament East-West football game” in 1902 with Stanford playing the University of Michigan. After a score of 49-0 (Michigan), the officials wondered if chariot races, ostrich races and other events would be better than football. However, football returned with a vengeance in 1916, with The State College of Washington vs. Brown University in the first annual Rose Bowl game. With sports and parades, Pasadena has something for the whole family.

There are celebrations pretty much everywhere, so it’s up to you what sort of New Year’s Eve parties you’d like to attend. For some people, it’s all about the warm weather and the beaches. After all, why not start the new year with a pleasant vacation an escape from the dreary winter weather? For others, it’s about New Year traditions and experiencing the Big Apple like they’ve seen on television since they were kids. For sports fanatics, it’s about the big game and tailgating with friends.

For a lot of people, New Year’s Eve is the best night of the year.

In a few words, something that you can all enjoy, not just the kids. Many so called family days out are haunted by the depressing spectre of a dad trudging round various attractions and feigning enthusiasm, let alone interest, in the bead and glitter creations of his offspring or the history of handbags exhibit his partner seems so fascinated by. Depending on how far you have travelled, family days out have to worth making the effort to get there in the first place!

If your brood is into animals and nature, there are few better places than South Wales for excellent and enjoyable family days out. They can even be educational in a sneaky sort of way! The national Showcaves Centre for Wales for example takes you 500 metres underground with impressive views of stalagmites, stalactites and underground waterfalls. The WWT National Wetland Centre Wales is home to hundreds of geese, swans and even flamingos that are so tame they feed from your hand, while the Welsh Hawking Centre and Animal Park has over 200 birds of prey including eagles, hawks and buzzards.

If your idea of family days out is excitement and education indoors, then there’s several attractions to choose from including Techniquest in Cardiff with over 160 hands-on interactive exhibits, rocket launchings, electric car races and hot air balloons or the National Museum of Wales with a spectacular array of dinosaur exhibits . Water parks can be fun too and there’s a plethora of well equipped centres in Cardiff and Newport. Naturally if it’s castles and history you’re after, then Wales is stuffed full of them but one favourite day out surely must be taking a leisurely trip in an electric day boat along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, or enjoying the spectacular scenery from the narrow gauge coaches of the Brecon Mountain railway.

The holidays are just around the corner and baby gift ideas are popping up everywhere. With the wide variety of items that are available, how do you know which gift is best? The perfect baby gift can be found for the precious newborn or the anxiously anticipated baby due early in the New Year. Consider one of these great baby gift ideas.

Diapers
All babies use many diapers per day. Although disposable diapers have now become the norm in most homes, there are economical and environmentally sound substitues. Cloth diapers are a perfect baby gift and Fuzzi Bunz cloth diapers are a great choice. Available in a variety of colors, choose either Perfect Size for an exact fit or One Size Birth to Potty adjustable diapers that grow with baby. Fuzzi Bunz also has accessories which help make using cloth diapers easier, such as wipes, mattress pads and diaper totes.

Blankets
Baby blankets are a very popular as a baby gift. One type is the multipurpose receiving blanket. Having several is quite handy since they can be used for swaddling, a light weight burp cloth, or a lightweight covering. Personalized custom blankets which offer embroidered dates, monograms or even motifs are popular. It is common for handmade baby blankets to be knitted or crocheted or even created from pieced together fabrics as a quilt. All types of baby blankets are generally welcome - homemade or purchased.

Monitor
A must for new parents and seasoned parents alike, the baby monitor allows moms and dads to attend to duties elsewhere in the home while baby is sleeping. Whether audio or video, a monitor is a great baby gift.

Infant Carriers
Both mother and baby enjoy the convenience of a baby carrier which secures baby to mom. Available in several styles which allow for hands-free carrying of baby from birth to and through the toddler years, Elllaroo baby carriers are versatile and stylish. Styles include simple ring slings or wrap designs, as well as the more elaborate Mei Tai and Mei Hip. Every new mom can benefit from the baby carrier, which tops the list of great baby gifts.

Crib Bedding Set
Usually including a matching comforter, bumper pad and crib sheet, a crib set often provides the starting point when decorating the nursery. To make sure you are selecting an item which meets her needs, consult the new mother-to-be to confirm the crib set you are selecting is compliementary to her style.

Mobile
It is important that babies are provided stimulation from a very early age to experience optimal development. A stationary mobile, attached to the crib and suspended where baby can easily see it, provides much needed visual stimulation. A battery operated or wind-up mobile is even better, combining color, movement and music to draw baby’s attention, provide both visual and auditory stimulation and soothe when baby is fussy.

The variety of baby gifts is nearly endless even if you are focusing on safety. With so many wonderful items from which to choose, selecting just the right baby gift is not only easy, but can also be a lot of fun!
