Holidays in Laos
Laos is a country full of lush forests, islands, and ancient architecture, until recently virtually undiscovered by tourists. Its people are laid-back and welcoming, and it is quickly becoming a popular vacation destination, much quieter than neighboring Vietnam and Cambodia. Laos is a perfect honeymoon destination, with plenty of activity and adventure, along with luxurious hotels in its cities.
A holiday in Laos will give you plenty of adventure; it is one of the world’s most popular trekking destinations. These adventures are community-based, combining homestays with visits to natural attractions. In addition to trekking, Laos offers rock climbing, bicycling, kayaking, hiking, backpacking, and rafting. Ancient monasteries are hidden away like gems, still feeling virtually undiscovered. Luang Prabang, the historic royal city, has much to offer travelers: a bustling marketplace, French colonial architecture, beautiful and colorful scenery, and contemporary monks. The city has an 11:30 curfew, keeping it a quiet, romantic destination.
Vientiane, Laos’s capital city, is located on the Mekong river. Its slow pace and laid-back ambiance are enough to infect any traveler with a sense of blissful serenity. Its attractions include the Morning market and Buddha Park.
Herbal saunas can be found throughout Laos. These simple places are often run by temples, and are refreshingly filled with scents of lemongrass and other herbs. Many offer massages as well.
Laos’s best season for travel coincides with numerous local festivals. November through February offer the least rain, and it is not yet too hot. These are also the busiest times in Laos, although its still undiscovered status keeps Laos from becoming overcrowded. Northern Laos, the mountainous region, is not unbearably hot between March and May, although Southern Laos is best avoided at this time.
For a romantic, peaceful, and adventurous destination, Laos may be the perfect choice for your next travels, whether it is a luxury honeymoon, romantic getaway, or simply a brief break from life’s hectic pace. Its relaxing vibe and gorgeous scenery feel refreshingly new, and comfortingly ancient.
